Article: Nigeria’s Electoral Reform Stares At The Judiciary

By SKC Ogbonnia

The recent statement by the government of President Muhammadu Buhari to reform the Nigeria ’s electoral laws is in order. Any overture with a positive attribute is always welcome. Yet, some might argue, and plainly so, that the idea of electoral reform in the country is hardly novel and therefore far from the solution. After all, despite the fact that Buhari’s immediate predecessors made similar attempts that resulted to Electoral Acts of 2002, 2006, and 2010, the Nigerian experience with election matters has remained a travesty of sorts.

News Release: Our Stances On The Gestapo Arrest Of Judges And Unabated Arbitrariness Of Buhari Regime

The National Conscience Party, NCP, watch with amazement and utter disgust the events that unfolded within the past days in Nigeria, though we are not in any way surprised by the turn of events. We are not surprised because we have consistently warned of the insincerity of this inept and pretentious APC regime and the script been played now only confirms our position about this regime and the fact that nothing has fundamentally changed for the better.

News Release: The Making Of Another Deadly Insurgency In Nigeria Via State Repression And Radicalization Of Shiite Muslim Worship

Our heart is saddened over the failure of the civilian Government of Gen Muhammadu Buhari to learn from history so as to avoid further triggering of societal anarchy and plunging the Federal Republic of Nigeria into a state of unquenchable and intractable human tragedies. The Buhari Administration has become so destructive that most, if not all of the democratic gains, values and consolidations made over the years particularly since 1999 have virtually disappeared or collapsed. The worst of it all is that Nigeria has lost its “conscience of the nation” (CSOs, rights activists and media) to Buhari Administration’s entrenched governance rascality and brigandage.

News Release: Kaduna State Government Is Culpable Of Inciting And Executing Cleansing Of IMN Members

Kaduna state government yesterday 13/10/16 was reported to have issued a warning to residents in Kaduna and other towns not to take laws into their hands on any individual or group, in reference to the attacks, arson and destruction of properties of members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria that occurred days earlier. Clearly, this is nothing but an afterthought. What happened in the wake of our peaceful Ashura mourning procession was a carefully planned plot, meticulously executed with all machinery of government.

Article: Justify The Action Of The DSS If You Want To, But Not Under Its Establishing Law

By Solomon Okedara

In the last 72 hours or so, I have read with total dismay the very disappointing words of many legal practitioners including some senior members of the bar claiming that Section 3 (c) of the National Security Agencies Act (NSAA) covers the arrest of some judges as done by the DSS on Friday 7th and Saturday 8th, October, 2016. The relevant part of the establishing law reads ‘such other responsibilities affecting internal security within Nigeria as the National Assembly or President may deem fit This is the part of that law that many “learned” counsel and other self-appointed ‘draftsmen’ have stretched to a sheer ridiculous extent to cover the ultra vires action of the DSS.

Article: Is Bola Tinubu guilty in the APC Imbroglio?

By abiodun KOMOLAFE

Bola Ahmed Tinubu's call on John Odigie-Oyegun to resign as National Chairman of All Progressives Congress (APC) for allegedly derailing from the path of progressives continues to generate diverse opinions in the polity. The call, rather than being misconstrued by Tinubu's antagonists should be seen for its altruistic value and content. It is about saving the soul of a ruling party that is still in its embryo.
